Finding the Picture with Brooks Jensen

Finding the Simplicity

The world is a chaotic place. Cameras cannot differentiate between the chaos of the world and the necessary elements that simplify the scene. We can -- or as creative individuals, we should. Simplifying the world is not the entire goal of art, but it is a very large part of it. The act of framing the shot is our most immediate and constant tool.

Here was a gorgeous tree in magnificent light, but just aiming the camera in that directions doesn't make a captivating photograph. It's still too chaotic.

A little careful framing so as to eliminate more of the distracting elements helps simplify the image and strengthen its content.
