Finding the Abstract

So yesterday I was photographing in a small Buddhist temple in a country neighborhood famous for its scenery. In fact, there were a number of painters there working on their artwork. The monk of the temple invite us to tea -- a sweet gesture on his part. My mind was thoroughly absorbed by the iconography, the formality of it all and the last thing in the world I was visualizing was anything abstract. As we walked out the side door, I saw an old, rusty wok. There was the picture. The scene as it was, and the abstract image I'm excited about that came so unexpectedly. Nothing to do with China, but then again . .
